Well, now that is seems like everyone and their grandmother are revisiting the virtues of cannabis, I think it is about time we collectively kick up our edible game. Thanks to dispensaries and medicinal marijuana rapidly becoming the norm, many of us have had the luxury of seeing, if not imbibing in, some pretty unusual types of pot snacks.

Everything from lollipops to pot-infused mints are making their way into the homes and nervous systems of people all across the globe. And while we don’t expect you to start cooking up crazy pot confectionaries, we do hope to get you would-be chronic chefs unstuck from this decades long brownie rutt.

Before we get into the actual food recipes, this is the most important thing to remember –  the recipe for your weed butter or weed oil. Because that is what gets you stoned. Making any sort of edible first starts with the creation of some type of fatty oil infused with THC. Which, in my mind, is what makes the “weed brownie” phenomenon so surprising.

Once you have weed oil, you can literally make any dish a pot dish. You want to get stoned off a salad? Drizzle some pot oil and balsamic over some leafy greens. Get blazed off french toast? Melt some weed butter into your pan then fry up some bread in it. Once you have the butter or oil, any recipe that calls for it can be turned into a stoned recipe.

So now let’s get started with the butter. (technically oil actually retains more THC, but also comes out tasting way more weed-y. Plus, butter is just tastier).

Making Weed Butter

Now, before we get into the actual cookery, remember that quality still counts. So the stronger your herb, the more potent your potables. That said, some people don’t want to get super blitzed off a muffin, so this could also be a good way to get rid of some middle of the road bud and end up with some kind, mellow butter. Now, to the actual cooking.

First, you heat up your pot to unlock the THC. Place it on a baking sheet one layer thick and pop it in the oven at 240 degrees for 40 minutes or so. Just enough to warm it up without burning.

Meanwhile, you want to melt your butter in a saucepan on low heat (about 4 sticks of butter for every ounce you are using). Once the weed is ready and the butter is melted, slowly stir in the pot. After all the weed is mixed in, let the mixture simmer for about 45 minutes.

When it is done, strain the butter using a cheesecloth or a sieve to extract as much of the actual weed particles as possible. Then you can let it cool and you are done. Weed butter made. How easy was that?

Now, lets take a look at what you can do with this delicious, stoney substance.

Bowled Over Breakfast Bars

If you are a big fan of the wake and bake, but hate those early morning coughing fits, this breakfast bar is for you.

Smackin’ Cheese

What if everyone’s favorite comfort food could also be a vehicle for everyone’s favorite comfort drug? Well, now it can. Just whip out your favorite Mac and Cheese recipe (including Kraft Blue Box, if you are feeling lazy) and just add some of that dank green butter. We also recommend adding some bacon bits to give it some smokiness to mask the pot flavor. Great either way though.

Pot Chocolate

Again, take your favorite hot chocolate recipe (including Swiss Miss packets with the little marshmallows), mix in a teaspoon of your weed butter to give it a little extra richness and kick. Now tell me that doesn’t sound like the coziest winter afternoon of all time.

Literally Any Cookie
So, like I said before, weed butter can be included in any recipe that butter can. That said, it help to cook things that have a strong flavor to help mask the weed taste. That is why brownies work so well. All that sugar and chocolate cover up the undeniable stank of that pot. But that said, it does feel like the stoner community got hung up on this one thing. What about weed cupcakes? What about pecan stonedies? White chocolate and craisin cookies? They all work! Just go look up the recipe for literally any cookie, ad in your weed butter, and bam! You’ve just made a batch of pot blondies.

So, really the key to any of this is making sure you have a good recipe for butter (or oil), and then the rest is up to you. The world is your oyster! Your super stoned oyster.

Oh, maybe try making pot oysters? Probably won’t be great, but you could…
